Brain & Head Injuries

WE HELP CLIENTS WHO HAVE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES

What is Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)? Most times, you clearly can see serious injuries that result from auto crashes, dog bites or falling off of a defective ladder. Most times…but not always. You cannot always immediately diagnose a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes damage to the brain. Such injuries can occur in almost any setting. TBI can result when the head suddenly and violently hits an object, or when an object pierces the skull and enters brain tissue. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain.

NOTE: The injured person does not have to be "knocked out" at the scene of the injury. In fact, a brain-injured person might be walking around at the scene of the auto crash after momentary loss of consciousness and appear fine. Yet, the symptoms of such an injury soon will appear. With mild TBI, a person soon might develop headaches, confusion, lightheadedness, dizziness, blurred vision or tired eyes, ringing in the ears, bad taste in the mouth, fatigue or lethargy, a change in sleep patterns, behavioral or mood changes, and trouble with memory, concentration, attention, or thinking.

A person with a moderate or severe TBI may show similar symptoms, but also may have a headache that gets worse or does not go away, repeated vomiting or nausea, convulsions or seizures, an inability to awaken from sleep, dilation of one or both pupils of the eyes, slurred speech, weakness or numbness in the extremities, loss of coordination, and increased confusion, restlessness, or agitation.

Anyone with signs of TBI should receive medical attention as soon as possible. Early treatment is vital to maximum medical improvement. If you or your loved one experience a TBI as result of someone else's negligence, please call the Garrow Law Firm and let us help. These injuries can be expensive and recovery can take a long time.
